Chapter 2: Sankhya Yoga

Transcendental Knowledge

Krishna begins to teach. He speaks first of the self that is never born and never dies, which no weapon cuts and no fire burns, and which changes bodies as a person changes worn clothes. He then turns to duty, and to the idea the Gita is best known for: you have a right to your action, never to its fruits. The chapter closes by describing the sthitaprajna — one of steady wisdom, undisturbed in pleasure and pain, who moves through desires as rivers enter the sea without troubling it.
