Chapter 2 · Sankhya Yoga

Constant Change · The Self That Remains

देहिनोऽस्मिन्यथा देहे कौमारं यौवनं जरा । तथा देहान्तरप्राप्तिर्धीरस्तत्र न मुह्यति ॥

dehino 'smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ jarā tathā dehāntara-prāptir dhīras tatra na muhyati

Meaning

"Just as the embodied soul passes through childhood, youth, and old age in this body, so too it passes into another body at death. The wise are not deluded by this."

Explanation

You are not the same person you were at five years old, yet something in you has remained constant through every change. That same steadiness carries you through every transition life brings, even the biggest ones.

Today's Life Lesson

Whatever transition you're moving through today, trust that the steady part of you that got through childhood is still here, still capable.
