Chapter 2 · Sankhya Yoga

A Loving Challenge · Compassion That Calls You Higher

श्रीभगवानुवाच । कुतस्त्वा कश्मलमिदं विषमे समुपस्थितम् । अनार्यजुष्टमस्वर्ग्यमकीर्तिकरमर्जुन ।।2।।

śrī bhagavān uvāca kutas tvā kaśmalam idaṃ viṣame samupasthitam anārya-juṣṭam asvargyam akīrti-karam arjuna

Meaning

"The Supreme Lord said: My dear Arjuna, from where has this weakness come upon you at this critical hour? It is unworthy, disgraceful, and leads not to heaven."

Explanation

Krishna's teaching opens by directly challenging Arjuna's despair, not with sympathy alone but with a call to rise.

Today's Life Lesson

True support sometimes looks like a gentle challenge, not just comfort — offer that to someone today.
