Chapter 4: Jnana Karma Sanyasa Yoga

Knowledge and Renunciation

Krishna reveals that this teaching is ancient, passed down through a lineage of kings and lost over time. Arjuna asks how that can be, since Krishna was born recently — and receives the answer on divine descent: whenever dharma declines and adharma rises, He takes form, age after age. The chapter then untangles action, inaction and wrong action, praises the one who sees stillness within activity, and ends with knowledge described as a fire that burns all karma to ash.
