Illustration for Bhagavad Gita chapter 4 verse 18
Chapter 4 · Jnana Karma Sanyasa Yoga

Stillness in Action · The Calm Beneath the Motion

कर्मण्यकर्म यः पश्येदकर्मणि च कर्म यः । स बुद्धिमान्मनुष्येषु स युक्तः कृत्स्नकर्मकृत् ॥

karmaṇy akarma yaḥ paśyed akarmaṇi ca karma yaḥ sa buddhimān manuṣyeṣu sa yuktaḥ kṛtsna-karma-kṛt

Meaning

"One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is wise among people; such a person is a true yogi, even while performing all kinds of actions."

Explanation

Being endlessly busy isn't the same as truly acting, and sitting quietly isn't the same as doing nothing. What matters is the inner stillness you carry, not how much motion is happening around you.

Today's Life Lesson

Amid today's busyness, check in with the stillness underneath — you can be active on the outside and calm within.
