Chapter 16: Daivasura Sampad Vibhaga Yoga

The Divine and Demoniac Natures

Krishna contrasts two kinds of nature. The divine — fearlessness, purity, self-restraint, non-violence, truth, absence of anger, compassion, gentleness, modesty. And the demoniac — hypocrisy, arrogance, conceit, harshness, ignorance — with its endless calculation of gain and enemies. He names three gates to self-destruction: lust, anger and greed, and counsels abandoning all three. Scripture, he says, is the authority for deciding what should and should not be done.
