Daily Horoscope

Western zodiac is based on your birth date; Vedic Rashi (moon sign) uses precise planetary positions. Choose whichever feels right for you.

Understanding Your Horoscope

A daily horoscope is a short reading for your sign. The important thing to know before reading one is which sign it is based on, because Vedic and Western astrology usually give a person different signs.

Rashi and sun sign are not the same

Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac and assigns your sign from the position of the Sun at birth. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, adjusted for the precession of the equinoxes, and gives greater weight to the Moon's position — your Chandra rashi, or moon sign. The gap between the two systems is currently around 24 degrees, which is why many people are one sign earlier in Vedic astrology than they expect.

Why the moon sign matters in Vedic practice

Vedic daily predictions are generally cast from the moon sign rather than the sun sign, because the Moon is taken to govern the mind and emotions and moves through a sign in roughly two and a half days. This is also the basis of transit readings, where the current position of planets is read against your natal moon.

Frequently asked questions

Which sign should I read?
For Vedic readings, use your moon sign, which needs your birth date, time and place to calculate. For Western readings, your sun sign is enough.
Why does my Vedic sign differ from the one I have always used?
Because of the difference between the sidereal and tropical zodiacs described above. Neither is a mistake — they are two different systems of reference.
