Talking to an Astrologer
A consultation differs from an automated reading: an astrologer looks at your full chart, asks about your circumstances, and answers the specific question you have brought. Preparing a little beforehand makes a considerable difference to what you get out of it.
What to have ready
Your date of birth, your time of birth as precisely as you can establish it, and your place of birth. Birth time matters more than people expect — it sets the ascendant, which changes roughly every two hours and determines the entire house structure of the chart. If your time is uncertain, say so at the start; astrologers have methods for working with an approximate time.
Asking a useful question
Specific questions produce more useful answers than open ones. "Should I take this job offer in March?" gives an astrologer something to work with in a way that "what does my career look like?" does not. It is also reasonable to ask what the chart does not show, and a careful astrologer will tell you.
Frequently asked questions
- What if I do not know my birth time?
- Readings are still possible using the moon sign and transits, though the house-based part of the analysis becomes less reliable. Some astrologers offer birth time rectification, which works backwards from known life events.
- How should predictions be treated?
- Astrology in the Vedic tradition is generally taught alongside the idea that effort and conduct matter. Readings are best used to inform decisions rather than replace them, and no reading should be treated as a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.
