Chapter 17 · Shraddhatraya Vibhaga Yoga

Presence Over Procedure · Heart Behind the Motions

विधिहीनमसृष्टान्नं मन्त्रहीनमदक्षिणम् । श्रद्धाविरहितं यज्ञं तामसं परिचक्षते ॥

vidhi-hīnam asṛṣṭānnaṁ mantra-hīnam adakṣiṇam śraddhā-virahitaṁ yajñaṁ tāmasaṁ paricakṣate

Meaning

"A sacrifice devoid of scriptural procedure, without offering food, without sacred chants, without gifts, and lacking faith, is called tamasic."

Explanation

Going through the motions without any real heart behind them tends to feel empty, both to the person doing it and to those around them — presence matters more than procedure alone.

Today's Life Lesson

Whatever ritual or routine you do today, bring real presence to it — that's what makes it meaningful, not just going through the motions.
