Chapter 17 · Shraddhatraya Vibhaga Yoga

The Spirit Behind the Act · What Makes It Truly Count

अश्रद्धया हुतं दत्तं तपस्तप्तं कृतं च यत् । असदित्युच्यते पार्थ न च तत्प्रेत्य नो इह ॥

aśraddhayā hutaṁ dattaṁ tapas taptaṁ kṛtaṁ ca yat asad ity ucyate pārtha na ca tat pretya no iha

Meaning

"O Partha, whatever is sacrificed, given, or done as austerity without faith, is called Asat, and it is of no value here or hereafter."

Explanation

The chapter closes with a reminder that the spirit behind an action matters just as much as the action itself — a good deed done half-heartedly loses much of its real value. Bringing genuine faith and presence to what you do is what makes it truly count.

Today's Life Lesson

Whatever you do today, bring genuine faith and presence to it — a half-hearted good deed loses much of its real worth.
