Chapter 1 · Arjuna Vishada Yoga

Arjuna's Despair · When the Body Speaks Before the Mind

अर्जुन उवाच । दृष्ट्वेमं स्वजनं कृष्ण युयुत्सुं समुपस्थितम् । सीदन्ति मम गात्राणि मुखं च परिशुष्यति ॥

arjuna uvāca dṛṣṭvemaṁ sva-janaṁ kṛṣṇa yuyutsuṁ samupasthitam sīdanti mama gātrāṇi mukhaṁ ca pariśuṣyati

Meaning

"Arjuna said: O Krishna, seeing my own kinsmen arrayed here, eager to fight, my limbs give way and my mouth is drying up."

Explanation

This is one of the most human moments in scripture — a great warrior's body simply refuses to cooperate with what his mind is being asked to do. It's honest permission to notice when fear shows up in the body, not just the mind.

Today's Life Lesson

If your hands are shaking or your stomach is in knots before something hard today, that's not weakness — it's just being human, and it's safe to keep going anyway.
