Chapter 6 · Dhyana Yoga

Karma Yoga · Renunciation Is Yoga

यं संन्यासमिति प्राहुर्योगं तं विद्धि पाण्डव । न ह्यसंन्यस्तसङ्कल्पो योगी भवति कश्चन ॥

yaṁ sannyāsam iti prāhur yogaṁ taṁ viddhi pāṇḍava, na hy asannyastasaṅkalpo yogī bhavati kaścana.

Meaning

"What is called renunciation, O Pandava, know that to be Yoga itself; for no one becomes a yogi without renouncing selfish desire."

Explanation

Renunciation and yoga are not two different paths—both mean letting go of selfish craving so the mind can settle into action.

Today's Life Lesson

Notice one selfish craving today and simply set it down—that small letting go is yoga in action.
