Chapter 5 · Karma Sanyasa Yoga

Inner Joy · The Light That Doesn't Depend on Outside

योऽन्तःसुखोऽन्तरारामस्तथान्तर्ज्योतिरेव यः । स योगी ब्रह्मनिर्वाणं ब्रह्मभूतोऽधिगच्छति ॥

yo 'ntaḥ-sukho 'ntar-ārāmas tathāntar-jyotir eva yaḥ sa yogī brahma-nirvāṇaṁ brahma-bhūto 'dhigacchati

Meaning

"One who finds happiness within, delight within, and is illuminated from within — such a yogi, united with the divine, attains liberation."

Explanation

The happiness that lasts isn't the kind you go out looking for — it's the kind you learn to access within, regardless of what's happening outside. Cultivating that inner light is worth more than chasing any outer source of joy.

Today's Life Lesson

Spend a few minutes today looking for happiness within rather than around you — you might find it's been there all along.
