Chapter 18 · Moksha Sanyasa Yoga

Even Willpower Has a Quality · What Shapes Your Resolve

बुद्धेर्भेदं धृतेश्चैव गुणतस्त्रिविधं शृणु । प्रोच्यमानमशेषेण पृथक्त्वेन धनञ्जय ॥

buddher bhedaṁ dhṛteś caiva guṇatas tri-vidhaṁ śṛṇu procyamānam aśeṣeṇa pṛthaktvena dhanañjaya

Meaning

"Hear now, O Dhananjaya, the threefold distinction of intellect and steadfastness, according to the gunas, described fully and separately."

Explanation

After examining knowledge, action, and the doer, Krishna now turns to intellect and willpower themselves — even our capacity to decide and to persevere is shaped by these same underlying qualities.

Today's Life Lesson

Notice today not just what you decide, but the quality of mind behind your deciding and persevering.
