Gentle Discipline · Calm, Kind, Honest

मनः प्रसादः सौम्यत्वं मौनमात्मविनिग्रहः । भावसंशुद्धिरित्येतत्तपो मानसमुच्यते ॥

manaḥ-prasādaḥ saumyatvaṁ maunam ātma-vinigrahaḥ bhāva-saṁśuddhir ity etat tapo mānasam ucyate

Meaning

"Serenity of mind, gentleness, silence, self-restraint, and purity of intention — this is called austerity of the mind."

Explanation

This is a wonderfully gentle definition of discipline — not harsh self-denial, but quiet qualities like calm, kindness, and honesty of heart that anyone can practice today.

Today's Life Lesson

Practice mental austerity today the gentle way — a little more calm, a little more kindness, a little more silence.
