Chapter 10 · Vibhuti Yoga

Sacred Awareness · Consciousness Itself Is Holy

वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः । इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना ॥

vedānāṁ sāma-vedo 'smi devānām asmi vāsavaḥ indriyāṇāṁ manaś cāsmi bhūtānām asmi cetanā

Meaning

"Among the Vedas I am the Samaveda, among the celestial gods I am Indra. Among the senses I am the mind, and in living beings I am consciousness."

Explanation

Even the very fact that you're aware right now, capable of noticing and reflecting, is itself described here as sacred. Consciousness itself is treated as holy, not just something to think with.

Today's Life Lesson

Pause today and simply appreciate the fact that you're aware at all — that consciousness itself is something sacred.
