Illustration for Bhagavad Gita chapter 6 verse 3
Chapter 6 · Dhyana Yoga

Yoga Progression · From Action to Stillness

आरुरुक्षोर्मुनेर्योगं कर्म कारणमुच्यते । योगारूढस्य तस्यैव शमः कारणमुच्यते ॥

ārurukṣor muner yogaṁ karma kāraṇam ucyate, yogārūḍhasya tasyaiva śamaḥ kāraṇam ucyate.

Meaning

"For the sage who wishes to climb to Yoga, action is said to be the means; for one who has already attained Yoga, stillness is said to be the means."

Explanation

Where you are on the path decides the practice: the beginner grows through action, the steady soul grows through stillness.

Today's Life Lesson

Don't judge your practice by someone else's stage—work where you are, whether that means doing more or doing less.
