Chapter 5 · Karma Sanyasa Yoga

Freedom Right Now · Equanimity as Liberation

इहैव तैर्जितः सर्गो येषां साम्ये स्थितं मनः । निर्दोषं हि समं ब्रह्म तस्माद् ब्रह्मणि ते स्थिताः ॥

ihaiva tair jitaḥ sargo yeṣāṁ sāmye sthitaṁ manaḥ nirdoṣaṁ hi samaṁ brahma tasmād brahmaṇi te sthitāḥ

Meaning

"Even here in this life, those whose minds are established in equanimity have conquered the cycle of birth and death, for Brahman is flawless and the same everywhere, and so they are established in Brahman."

Explanation

You don't have to wait for some future liberation — a mind that has genuinely settled into equanimity right now is already living in that freedom, the Gita says, however ordinary the day around it looks.

Today's Life Lesson

Look for a small chance today to meet both good and bad news with the same steady mind — that steadiness is its own freedom.
