The Root of Anger · What's Really Underneath

श्रीभगवानुवाच । काम एष क्रोध एष रजोगुणसमुद्भवः । महाशनो महापाप्मा विद्ध्येनमिह वैरिणम् ॥

śrī-bhagavān uvāca kāma eṣa krodha eṣa rajo-guṇa-samudbhavaḥ mahāśano mahā-pāpmā viddhy enam iha vairiṇam

Meaning

"The Supreme Lord said: It is desire, born of the mode of passion, which turns to anger. Know this as the all-devouring enemy in this world."

Explanation

Anger rarely arrives alone — trace it back and you'll usually find an unmet desire or expectation underneath. Recognizing that root is often the quickest way to soften the anger itself.

Today's Life Lesson

Next time anger flares up today, gently ask what desire or expectation is really underneath it — that question alone can soften the heat.
