Chapter 18 · Moksha Sanyasa Yoga

Through, Not Around · Where Real Ease Comes From

दुःखमित्येव यत्कर्म कायक्लेशभयात्त्यजेत् । स कृत्वा राजसं त्यागं नैव त्यागफलं लभेत् ॥

duḥkham ity eva yat karma kāya-kleśa-bhayāt tyajet sa kṛtvā rājasaṁ tyāgaṁ naiva tyāga-phalaṁ labhet

Meaning

"One who gives up prescribed duty out of fear of bodily discomfort, calling it painful, performs renunciation in rajas and gains none of its true fruit."

Explanation

Avoiding discomfort by quitting doesn't actually bring the peace we're hoping for — real ease usually comes from moving through the difficulty, not around it.

Today's Life Lesson

If something feels uncomfortable today, consider moving through it rather than around it — that's usually where real relief lives.
