Chapter 12 · Bhakti Yoga

Dear Through Quiet Steadiness · No Spectacle Needed

तुल्यनिन्दास्तुतिर्मौनी सन्तुष्टो येन केनचित् । अनिकेतः स्थिरमतिर्भक्तिमान्मे प्रियो नरः ॥

tulya-nindā-stutir maunī santuṣṭo yena kenacit aniketaḥ sthira-matir bhaktimān me priyo naraḥ

Meaning

"One who is equal in praise and blame, quiet, content with whatever comes, without a fixed abode, of steady mind, and full of devotion, is dear to Me."

Explanation

None of the qualities listed here are dramatic — quiet, content, unattached to a fixed place, steady-minded. It's an ordinary-sounding list, and that's exactly the point: dearness to the divine doesn't require spectacle, just quiet steadiness.

Today's Life Lesson

You don't need a dramatic gesture to be worthy today — quiet contentment and steadiness are already enough.
