Beyond a Single Picture · The Overwhelming Multiplicity

श्रीभगवानुवाच । पश्य मे पार्थ रूपाणि शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः । नानाविधानि दिव्यानि नानावर्णाकृतीनि च ॥

śrī-bhagavān uvāca paśya me pārtha rūpāṇi śataśo 'tha sahasraśaḥ nānā-vidhāni divyāni nānā-varṇākṛtīni ca

Meaning

"The Blessed Lord said: Behold, O Partha, My forms — hundreds and thousands of them, of many kinds, divine, of many colors and shapes."

Explanation

Arjuna asked to see the truth, and Krishna doesn't offer a single tidy image — he offers an overwhelming multiplicity, form after form. Reality, it turns out, is far bigger and stranger than any one picture could hold.
