Chapter 1 · Arjuna Vishada Yoga

What We Stand to Lose · Protecting What Holds Us Together

कुलक्षये प्रणश्यन्ति कुलधर्माः सनातनाः । धर्मे नष्टे कुलं कृत्स्नमधर्मोऽभिभवत्युत ॥

kula-kṣaye praṇaśyanti kula-dharmāḥ sanātanāḥ dharme naṣṭe kulaṁ kṛtsnam adharmo 'bhibhavaty uta

Meaning

"When a family is destroyed, its timeless traditions perish; and when dharma is lost, the whole family falls into unrighteousness."

Explanation

Arjuna's worry reaches beyond the battlefield to what gets lost when families and communities fracture — the quiet traditions and values that hold people together. What we're fighting for matters as much as who wins.

Today's Life Lesson

In any conflict today, keep half an eye on the relationship itself, not just on being right — some things are worth protecting more than a point.
