Chapter 1 · Arjuna Vishada Yoga

Clouded Vision · When Fear Colors What We See

निमित्तानि च पश्यामि विपरीतानि केशव । न च श्रेयोऽनुपश्यामि हत्वा स्वजनमाहवे ॥

nimittāni ca paśyāmi viparītāni keśava na ca śreyo 'nupaśyāmi hatvā sva-janam āhave

Meaning

"I see only omens of misfortune, O Keshava. I foresee no good from killing my own kinsmen in this battle."

Explanation

When we're afraid, our vision narrows and every sign starts to look like a bad omen. That doesn't mean the fear is telling the truth — it just means it's time to look again, more calmly.

Today's Life Lesson

If everything looks like a bad sign today, give yourself permission to pause before deciding it's true — fear is a poor judge of the whole picture.
